This is becoming quite a common issue with Cruzen, and was a common problem on the car I owned before the Cruze as well. In essence, the battery cable overheats, and acts like a kink in a garden hose - the car just doesn't have the proper current/voltage it needs to run. Hmm, it very well could be the linkage needs adjusting. I did have the exact same symptoms you had, and swapping manual transmission fluid made the shifting issue disappear. It didn't help with the noise, though. Mine still makes some unpleasant noises on the 1-2 shift most of the shifts.
